  • How to bring a YouTube playlist to Cooliris

Some users have expressed that they want to be able to take a YouTube playlist and embed it in a Cooliris wall, instead of using an entire channel.  While we are working on a way to do this from the Cooliris Express website in the future, there is a way that you can do it now. Here’s how:

Start out by going to the Cooliris Express Builder. Select your content source as YouTube, and choose your video source to be “From a user”.  Enter the username of the user who created the playlist.

After customizing the wall to your taste, move on to the Publish tab.  You will need to copy the embed code so that we can change it a little bit.

The embed code should look something like what we have below.  We will be changing the highlighted portion of the code so that we only get the desired playlist.

Now, navigate to the YouTube playlist that you want to embed.  You will need to take the file-path identifier at the end of the URL and place it where the XXXXX is in the following link:

    http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/playlists/XXXXX

Copy the new URL and place it into the two highlighted regions of the embed code. This will replace the previously highlighted sections of code.

Voila! Now you should have an embed wall with a playlist in it!

Thanks to Tedy Necula for helping us find this.  You can find his blog at http://tedynecula.filmmaking.ro/.

  • New releases: Cooliris Express and embeddable Wall

Attention website owners and developers! For those of you using the Cooliris Wall on your websites, we’ve released a new version with performance and animation improvements, which means that scrolling is faster and interactions are smoother. This does not require any action on your part, but we will be rolling out the new SWF to your Walls incrementally from our end.

We’ve also taken your feedback and feature requests and released a new version of Cooliris Express that you can start using today. Besides the new, slicker interface, here are some of the cool new things that you can expect with Cooliris Express version 1.5:

    My Cooliris Walls Manager

Cooliris Express now includes a personal webpage that allows you to view, manage, and edit all of your Cooliris Walls in a centralized hub, so that you can easily keep track of all of your Walls on your blog, Facebook or wherever. This manager also allows you to dynamically edit the content or appearance of an existing Wall in real-time without having to create a new one from scratch. All you have to do is click “Login” at the upper right of the the Cooliris Express builder website and login with your Facebook or Google username to access your personal Wall manager.

    comScore and Google Analytics Support

Now, you can measure the success of your Cooliris Walls with stats support from comScore and Google Analytics. With these stats, you can find out useful information like how many times a visitor clicks on each photo or video. So far, many of the publishers using Cooliris Walls have seen a five to six time increase in engagement on their web pages!

Better ways to share individual photos and videos in the Wall

Previously, you could only share entire Walls, but now you can actually share individual photos and videos in the Wall. So, if someone visits your site and sees something cool on your Cooliris Wall, he/she can one-click share that photo or video to Facebook or Twitter, driving more viral distribution of your content for further exposure and traffic.

Hope you enjoy the upgrades in Cooliris Express, and please send us feedback!

  • New Cooliris Wall at Stanford E-Corner

The Stanford Entrepreneurship Corner (aka E-Corner) just launched a Cooliris Wall on their site! This integration has us very excited because not only do all of us feel passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation, many of us know Stanford as our alma mater, myself included.

The E-Corner is part of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, an entrepreneurship education and research center located within the School of Engineering at Stanford University. The website has tons of great podcasts and videos of lectures and talks from some of today’s brightest Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders. And, if you look for it, there is one video of Soujanya, our CEO, Austin, our CTO, and Josh, our co-founder speaking at Stanford!

This is a great place for budding entrepreneurs looking to learn more about entrepreneurship, so go and check out some of the great talks and resources this website has to offer.
