Immersive ads

One thing that we are particularly excited about having built recently is a set of prototype immersive ads. Before you read on, you should take some time to watch this video:

The demos that you see there were built on the Cooliris Platform. The first three ads are hosted in our desktop media browsing application. The fourth is an example of what we can do with WebGL in a suitably modern web browser.

While there are potential ways to simulate this experience today, they require tons of specialized work (the sort of thing that you would have to hire a game developer to do instead of a web developer). Our goal with the Cooliris Platform is to make it simple to both create and publish amazing immersive ads. Using our platform, you only have to provide 2 things to implement rich immersive ads: 1) your 3d artwork in an industry standard format such as .3ds, and 2) a description of what behaviors to exhibit to the user in the ad in the SigmaML markup language. For example, in the combat video game example ad, you would describe the camera path to animate through when selected. In the Canon example, you would tell us to show parallax when the user scrolls the page and to pop the camera out and allow the user to rotate it.

Feedback from our advertising clients and technology partners has been very promising so far. We expect you to be able to see ads powered by the Cooliris Platform in the not too distant future–starting with iOS, and next on the Web. We’ll keep you posted as things develop on this front.

  • Social Media Prom, an event of the year!

The Social Media Prom hosted by Funny Or Die last Thursday was a huge success! Thanks to @Krystyl and @Benparr for putting together an amazing event(!) and everyone who came to our photo booth to share the fun and allow us to capture memorable moments, and there were plenty of them! Check it out, find yourselves, and share the link with your friends! You can also share individual photos in the Wall by clicking the Facebook and Twitter icons on the right side of the photo.

This was the first time Liveshare was introduced to this social media community and we are absolutely thrilled about all the LOVE we got! There were, however, a few glitches with sharing, saving, and commenting that we thought would be worthwhile to address them here:

SHARING – Once you download Liveshare app on your iPhone or Android phone, you can click on the arrow icon at the bottom of photo of your choice or click on SHARE at the top of the photo stream to share the entire photo stream via Facebook or via email.

SAVE/DOWNLOAD – If you want to download the photos, all you need to do is get the Liveshare app for your mobile phone, select the photo, and click the lower left pop out button to share or save the photo. The current version that is available in the app store is still an early version of Liveshare, but we’ll be releasing a new version soon so stay tuned!

TAGGING/COMMENTING – Current 1.0 version only allows “liking” but we are looking at integration in the future so stay tuned!

We’d also love to hear from you so please send us your comments! Android v1.1 was just released, so those of you who have Android phones, make sure you update!

Thanks again, and follow Liveshare on Twitter to get the latest Liveshare updates and event notifications.
