Switching to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard?

If you’re a Mac user about to upgrade to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, please know that Cooliris is not yet compatible with the new operating system.

Snow Leopard renders Cooliris inoperable on Safari, and will also make it impossible for Cooliris to auto-update you, even when we have a compatible version ready. If you use Firefox on the Mac, Snow Leopard will stop Flash from working within Cooliris, although we will be able to upgrade you later.

We’re working hard on a fix and should have our new version of Cooliris up on www.cooliris.com very shortly.

Safari users, since we can’t update you, let us know if you would like us to notify you when a compatible version of Cooliris is ready. Just send a blank email to us at snowleopard@cooliris.com. We promise not to spam you and will email you only regarding this update.

If you’re not planning to get Mac OS X v.10.6 any time soon, all’s well. Cooliris will continue to work smoothly on Mac OS X v.10.5 with Safari and Firefox. This issue doesn’t affect Windows users.

We really appreciate your patience. Thanks for using Cooliris!

UPDATE 9/3/09: We have just released Cooliris for Firefox on Snow Leopard. Refer to this blog post for more information.

  • The Next Episode

Ok, so I’ve seen the Hulu commercials with Denis Leary and Alec Baldwin telling me that they’re aliens, waiting intently for Hulu to turn my brain to a fine slurry that they can suck through a straw on their way to tasty world domination.

Thing is, I don’t mind in the least.

Check it out: there are now well over 30 Channels on Cooliris being constantly updated, including major television networks (with full episodes of Star Trek and CSI!), ESPNHuluNational Geographic, and the NYT. You can visit MGM for full-length movies. The Onion for the best in video satire.

For a full list of our content providers you can visit our Content page here. Bookmark it, because you can use it as a Cooliris hub: from there you can click directly into each provider’s specific Channel in Cooliris. If you’re interested in what we offer but haven’t downloaded Cooliris yet, visit the Content page anyway and click on different providers to see examples of their current offerings.

But what if you DO have Cooliris already, and you just haven’t used it for watching movies and TV shows yet? Well, today you’re out of excuses, because we’re going to walk you through how to do it.

First off, there are our main Channels. Easy enough. You see TV Episodes, TV Clips, and Movies and Trailers menu options, among others. It’s perfect for when you don’t really know what’s on. So you surf. Think of it like browsing a hundred channels between blinks.

But say you know what you want to watch. You want to fire up House and you’re nowhere near a TV (honestly, you don’t need those things anyway “ they’re bad for you). Well, that’s what that nifty Search tab at the top right of Cooliris is for. Type in House and choose Hulu or Blinkx and you’ll soon be up to your eyeballs in diagnostic banter. And look, the Search tab ties directly into Channels as well, so you can ensure that you can find the clever clip that you wandered into yesterday right away, without having to scour the Wall in vain.

The Hulu folks may be evil aliens, but we’re enablers. And that’s almost as wicked.

    Happy viewing.

  • Formal Friday at Cooliris!

At Cooliris, we pride ourselves in having a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. That’s certainly reflected in our dress code, or lack thereof. But every so often, we get real old-fashioned and dress in our Sunday best just to shake things up a bit. Today was one of those days “ Formal Friday at Cooliris! Please do not be fooled by some of the awkward facial expressions -being dressed to the nines is quite foreign to much of the team!

The Cooliris crew certainly cleans up nice, eh? Très chic, as a fashionista might say!

Speaking of French, it saddens me to report that I will be taking a hiatus from blogging to go to Paris for 4 months. It will be an awesome experience, but I’ll certainly miss being around here, and I’ll miss you readers as well! But if there are any Cooliris fans out in Paris who would like to meet up for some café, please let me know at mark.friese@cooliris.com! Take care, everyone!
