Just in time for Thanksgiving, the World Food Programme (WFP) has introduced a unique project to aid in the global struggle against hunger. They’ve created the Wall Against Hunger, an endless wall made using Cooliris where visitors can add pictures of their loved ones after donating to feed a child. Supporters can then feature the wall in an interactive greeting card that can be shared with friends and family.

The contribution necessary to have a big effect is very small. Just 25 cents can serve a daily school meal to a hungry child, $25 feeds a child for half the school year, and $126 provides micronutrient supplementation for 50 students for a year. The WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, and reached 19.3 million children worldwide in 2007 to provide daily nutritious meals. Cooliris is honored to be help the WFP continue to make a positive impact across the globe.

So take a moment during the holidays to contribute. Place a picture on the WFP’s  Wall Against Hunger, send a card, and share in the spirit of the season.

We’re psyched  to announce that the iTunes Store has just released our new Cooliris for iPhone, version 1.2, which brings in a whole new world of integrated easy-to-use Web support.

The biggest addition is video support. Version 1.2 is now offers a slick and easy way to perform YouTube searches on your iPhone. With the recent announcement that YouTube will soon feature full-length movies, Cooliris brings you the fun of theater-hopping anywhere you go!

Version 1.2 also introduces a unique “scanner effect”, allowing you to save images from your Cooliris Wall to the iPhone’s local camera roll. Cooliris becomes a great way to personalize your phone, turning everything from Flickr family photos to inventive artwork from DeviantArt into iPhone wallpaper.

There are new Discover channels as well, bringing Cooliris for the iPhone closer to its browser extension counterpart. Entertainment News brings you the latest from E! blogs, Perez Hilton, the Insider, ET and more. The Music channel offers streaming music videos from your favorite artists. Wallpaper brings you great new backgrounds for your iPhone, and Cool Videos has a selection of some of the most popular new videos to grace the web.

Last but certainly not least, our new release also boasts some subtler under-the-hood improvements as well, with a cleaner, faster UI that’s sure to have you surfing media more quickly than you ever have before!

With well over 100,000 downloads, the app’s continuing to gain momentum: It’s already in the Top 10 most popular Entertainment apps and an Apple staff favorite! So if you haven’t already, now’s the best time to download Cooliris for the iPhone.

Today Mozilla announced a new offering from Firefox called Fashion Your Firefox. Not only do we love the name, but we were thrilled to find out that we are a part of this!

Fashion Your Firefox is a simple Web tool that customizes your Firefox browser based on your interests and online activities. It helps you easily select add-ons that fit your needs, and enables you to install them with just a few easy clicks. Cooliris was lucky enough to be bundled in the Shutterbug group.

Using the tool is easy, simply select add-ons in categories that interest you, click the “I want this add-on!” button, and select the adjacent “click here to install them” link.

Thanks, Mozilla, for all you’ve done to help get the word out about Cooliris. It’s because of the Firefox community of users and all the great feedback you’ve given us to help improve our product that we are where we are today. Well, you certainly have spoken loud and clear! Who would have thought we would have been in the top ten apps for Entertainment and seen over 250,000 downloads of Cooliris for iPhone in the first few weeks?

And, not only have you downloaded the app, you’ve given us a huge amount of feedback on additional new features you’s like to see. We value all of your feedback so much and have incorporated a lot of what you’ve asked for in our upcoming release. . . . Video, do I hear video?

We’ll be submitting a new release to Apple later today and have our fingers crossed that it will be in the app store soon. We’ll be sure to post when it’s live in the store!

Last week’s Web 2.0 Conference brought together some of of the biggest luminaries of the Web. And, what gathering of luminaries would be complete without the presence of John Doerr? John spent some quality time with John Heilman, of New York Magazine, talking about a variety of subjects ranging from who should be the country’s CTO under John Doerr to which companies showed the greatest potential to be standouts in the Web 2.0 world.
