Next Generation Web: The New PicLens 1.7
June 13th, 2008We are thrilled to announce today’s launch of PicLens Version 1.7 with three exciting additions:
Discover
MSNBC, ESPN, movie trailers . . . Now the latest news in sports, entertainment, and current events is all just one click away. Look for the “Discover” button in the top left corner of the PicLens screen, and click on it for a list of media channels. Select any category, and a collection of the latest relevant images and videos will be at your fingertips. This information is refreshed as often as every 15 minutes, so feel free to revisit it as often as you like. Is there a channel that you would like to see? Just e-mail us back at feedback@cooliris.com and we’ll look into it.

Shop Amazon
Call it virtual window shopping. The power of PicLens has been put to work with Amazon.com. Just type your query into the PicLens search box, and choose a Amazon product category in the pull-down menu to refine your search. Voila! Now you can browse products visually. Zooming in on an image will give you details and price information. Click on the globe icon in the information bar, and you will be taken to the product webpage on Amazon, where you can find additional summaries and reviews and even make your purchase.

Return to PicLens
We heard you! Now you can minimize PicLens to a corner of your screen and come back later right where you left off, with one click. Want to jump to the corresponding webpage of an image or video and then toggle right back into PicLens? Click!

We can’t wait to hear your feedback on these exciting new features.

Cool! But it doesn’t works on Firefox 3.0 RC3! (I think that it doesn’t works also on Firefox 3.0 RC1+2). That is a great pity!
PS: I have send you some bugs!

Hey there, Jeffrey:
PicLens 1.7 should work on Firefox 2.0 and on all versions of Firefox 3.0rc, including rc3. Please do send an email to bugs@piclens.com. We’d like to figure out why it’s not working on your system.
Note that you may need to download PicLens 1.7 using your Firefox 3.04c3 browser. If you already had PicLens installed on Firefox 2.0, there could be a conflict. We’ll soon be pushing out an auto-update to those who downloaded PicLens from our site. The auto-update should resolve any remnant conflicts.
Kind regards,
Alec & The Cooliris Team

What would be nice is the ability to save the pictures you see. OR, ESPECIALLY in FLICKR.. select the picture that you’re viewing to be able to go to that picture’s flickr page. There’s no way to do that which is a problem if you’re deep browsing some one’s flickr stream!

I like the additions.
I’d LOVE to see the ability to add my own RSS Feeds in the new “Discover” feature. I have several image feeds that I’d love to view in PicLens!

Jeffrey, I am having no issue with FF3 RC3, it’s working like a charm. Love the return to PicLens feature, it works very well with browsing/commenting/faving on Flickr and then hopping back in the Piclens view. Thanks of that!

I´m really, really surprised by how fast you guys solved my problem with piclens. Just few days i wrote an e-mail telling you that i couldn’t keep using piclens because when i used to open an image, i couldn’t go back to the same search.
And now, vouila! We got this exciting addition: the possibility of going back to a search after opening an image! That´s awesome and a great costumer service by hearing us.
Thaks to the team!
(again, sorry about my english, i’m brazilian)

Return to piclens doesn’t work for me either I’m afraid. I’m on the latest version of Firefox too.

Piclens team + cmiper:
I can’t download Piclens with the download button on the homepage, because that is te URL for the FF2 version. I found the FF3 version on the page ‘Download all products’. Then works it fine!

Love the “Return to PicLens” feature. It’s absence was the only thing keeping me from using PicLens regularly with the last build. Thank you.

Coloris team, that’s a great job. congratulations
the additions are perfect especially
I was waitin” for a solution to the jumping url which closes piclens but now with the return back button piclens is much more useful for me so thanks thanks thanks, ….
I would like somethin’ else if possible ? to be able to change the black background and, may it can be in a next version, a possibility to select pictures and open them at once by clickin’ on a other button in a piclens tool bar.
I have fun with piclens. great extension !

Return To Piclens has a problem - I press escape to get out of Piclens, and the button floats on top of all other applications, including full screen video!

I really appreciate all this changes, specially the return to PicLens button. I just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work.

Brill work guys! I like the way you use Amazon Tags for affilaite links to generate income for yourselves, great idea! Can we create our own channels?

Wow, Piclens is really one of the best web plugins I’ve seen so far! I love to browse Flickr with it! For next versions, what about integrating favs and comments?

Yoyr plugin is beautiful. But… there is a bug.
I make plugin for OsCommerce. Nothing special, latest 100 products in shop are automaticalli syndicated over rss and formatted in Media Rss. But By opening site and installed in browser Piclens very strange thinks are happend. Shop randomly change your language on every page and refresh.
I deactivate plugin, all is ok, activate and again this happend. With Firefox 2 and IE7 too. Users without Piclens installed have no problems. I check three times and seems the problem is in Piclens.
OsCommerce is latest version, SEO urls and mod rewrite.

I have a Sony Vaoi desktop running XP and aGateway T-6828 notebook running Vista. Both are running IE 7. When I go to PicLens, both work perfectly. However, when I exit from PicLens on the laptop, IE 7 freezes (not responding). I have to use task manager to end it. This doesn’t happen with the desktop. I tried reloading PicLens and have updated all my drivers for Vista. No change. The details from Vista only say the program that hung was Explorer. Any ideas why this is happening? I love the site but can’t keep locking up IE 7.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:35 pm
yeah, this is happening to me to.
I’m on IE 7 with the latest version of piclens and everytime I close it, it hangs my IE. I’m on Vista SP1 home premium 32bit. I love piclens but can’t figure out what’s wrong with it.
